"CCLI performs a great service: eliminating the hassle of copyright clearance that would otherwise be an impossible job for churches. As a worship leader, it is so nice to have a huge catalog of worship songs to pick from and not worry about whether I can obtain permission to use them. It is all included in the annual fee. The reporting requirements are not burdensome either... All in all, a wonderful service."
Kelly Carpenter
Songwriter, Worship Leader

Glossary

Here are some definitions of terms we commonly use:

Administrator The individual or organization which administers the song. The administrator is responsible for protecting the song rights, for administering usage of the song, and for distributing royalties for that use to the song owner. The administrator will usually be established on a territory by territory basis. Royalties are paid to the administrator, not the song owner (although in some cases, they may be the one and the same.) E.g., in the case of "© 2006 Grace Music, administered by Smiling Uncle Music", the administrator is "Smiling Uncle Music".
Authorized Administrator List The list of Administrators (e.g. Crossroad Distributors Pty Ltd) covered by the Church Copyright Licence program. See Administrator for an explanation of that term.
Authorized Catalogue List The list of Catalogues (copyright owners) (e.g. Integrity's Alleluia! Music) covered by the Church Copyright Licence program. See Catalogue for an explanation of that term. For a song to be reproduced under the Church Copyright Licence program, it must be on the Authorized Catalogue List.
Authorized Publisher List The list of Publishers (i.e. publishers of the books) (e.g. HarperCollins UK) covered by the Photocopy Licence program. For a song to be reproduced under the Photocopy Licence, the song copyright owner must be on the Authorized Song Owner List, and the book must be published by a publisher on the Authorized Publisher List.
Authorized Song Owner List The list of Song Owners (means the same as "Catalogue") (e.g. Integrity's Alleluia! Music) covered by the Photocopy Licence program. For a song to be reproduced under the Photocopy Licence, the song copyright owner must be on the Authorized Song Owner List, and the book must be published by a publisher on the Authorized Publisher List.
Catalogue The owner of the song / work. For example in "© 2006 Grace Music, administered by Smiling Uncle Music", the catalogue is "Grace Music".
Publisher Sometimes interchangeably used with Administrator, but strictly speaking, a Publisher is the publisher (printer) of a book or other media. When talking about the Photocopy Licence, Publisher refers to the publisher of the book (or media).

Report period As songs are reported by churches and organizations, we have a processing cycle, where we review and audit those reports. This is to ensure the correct songs have gone into our systems, and to ensure the copyright owners are paid their royalties correctly. Every six months, at the end of that cycle, or report period, we pay royalties to the song owners, and produce reports for them on the song reproductions. For more details, see Royalty Process.
Song owner See Catalogue.
Territory An area where a particular set of copyright laws apply. CCLI has to have a separate set of legal agreements with the copyright owners of each Territory. So far "territory" could be used interchangeably with "country", except for the Africa Territory, which includes Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe.
Unverified song A song where we don't have any / enough copyright information. See Verified song for what is required to verify a song.
Verified song The song has been checked and verified by the song copyright owner as being theirs, and have provided all of the song copyright information, including song ownership percentages (where the song is owned by more than one catalogue).
